The Manitou Forest Project

View Manitou Forest Project Presentation

In collaboration with the Nature Conservancy, this project on the Minnesota North Shore will examine the potential to manage second growth forests to create old-growth characteristics anda flow of timber products at the same time. The design includes second-growth stands to receive several silvicultural treatments, second-growth control stands, and old-growth reference stands. Several replicates of each of these conditions will be followed for approximately 20 years. Productivity, species richness, and structural characteristics will be monitored throughout the experiment.
